NSW Education Collaborative for Speciality Services

NECSS was formed in mid-2006 with the aim to develop, promote and coordinate specialty education activities in rural NSW using a collaborative approach. The establishment of NECSS has acted to support current NSW rural education services at a local level, thus addressing the issue of ‘distance versus access' to education. Services represented within NECSS include:

The seminar "Care of the Critically Ill" has been developed to provide rural clinicians with an overview of a number of different types of patients who may present with a critical illness.

  • The target audience is the rural clinician who works in any clinical setting from a multi-purpose centre to a base hospital.
  • The content concentrates on the basics and need-to-knows for a number of critical conditions from the speciality areas of paediatrics, burns, trauma, intensive care, cardiology, neurology and spinal injuries.
  • The program runs for two days with content presented in lectures, skill stations and tutorials
  • To date the seminar has been run at five locations and reports can be found elsewhere on this page.
  • The presentations from Orange March 2009 are available as PDF documents below.

The next seminar will be held in Tamworth on October 22-23 2009. For more information please contact ICCMU.
