ICUConnect

• ICUConnect is a list server managed by ICCMU.
• ICUConnect went live in December 2003 with 130 senior nursing clinicians across NSW Intensive Care Units.
• The purpose of ICUConnect was to create a communication network to help overcome the professional isolation felt by nursing clinicians, especially in rural ICUs.
• Membership has grown steadily and now numbers over 800 health professionals covering most Australian states.
• In September 2005 ICUConnect went international with members in Denmark, Iceland, United Kingdom and Mexico.

As a member of ICUConnect you get

• You are able to ask a question relevant to critical care.
• Replies can be made on or off list.
• A bimonthly newsletter from ICCMU, which includes summary of ICCMU projects, seminars and websites.

  • Its been a break through in communication between all levels of units/staff/competence. Its good to know that somewhere out there someone has trod where you are now!
  • I think this is a great service as it really does connect all. It invites everybody to have a say and discuss what is going on in other units. We ICU people tend to get very comfortable in our own little part of the world and do things our way.
  • Its a great service, and it helps practitioners learn from the experiences of other practitioners/units and saves time when researching clinical issues.

• Some online discussions are collated by ICCMU and posted here for future reference.

Hospital Contributions

• During 2004-2006 a different unit or department from across NSW posted a contribution to the membership of ICUConnect on a weekly basis. In the past this has included summaries of quality activities, policy and protocol and literature reviews. Most of these contributions have been archived.Page updated September 14, 2007
