Westmead Hospital is the university teaching hospital for the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), and is a referral centre for designated rural areas.
Critically ill patients who require respiratory support, monitoring and management as a result of trauma or due to neurosurgical, general medical, general surgical, haematology or renal problems are admitted to this ICU.
The hospital also has a Coronary Care Unit (Ward A5b) and a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU): C3C.
A team of highly specialised and qualified senior doctors, as well as those gaining experience and qualifications in Intensive Care Medicine manage patients in the unit.
A team of highly specialised and qualified senior nurses as well as those gaining experience and qualifications in Intensive Care Nursing manage patients in the unit. A senior Registered Nurse is in charge of each shift (Team Leader).
The unit staffing is also complimented by Allied Health Professionals from the disciplines of physiotherapy, pharmacy, social work, dietetics, occupational therapy and chaplaincy. Consultation with these team members can be arranged by the nursing staff.

Westfield shopping centre is located in nearby Parramatta, in close proximity to the railway station.
On-site and nearby accommodation may be arranged in consultation with the social work department or nursing team leader.
